Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) announced its plan to hire more than 50,000 associates to support its stores nationwide during the holiday season. According to the company, it is anticipating to hire an average of 40 seasonal employees per store to ensure that customers will receive excellent service while shopping during the holidays. Kohl’s has 1,158 stores in 49 states.
Kohl’s to hire temporary employees
In addition, the department store chain will also hire approximately 6,400 temporary employees at its distribution centers and around 350 temporary credit operations staffs across the country.
Michelle Gass, chief customer officer at Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) said, “In order to ensure we provide excellent customer service during the busiest time of the year, Kohl’s is hiring more than 50,000 associates across the country to maintain the high level of service our shoppers appreciate. These additional associates will help us provide an enjoyable and convenient shopping experience to our valued customers.”
According to the company, its seasonal associates have the option to work for a few hours to more than 20 hours per week. Some of the typical jobs include unloading trucks, freight processing, stocking and cash register duties.
Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) will start its hiring process this month, and aims to fill all positions by the middle of November. The company started hiring workers for seasonal positions at its distribution centers last month.
Kohl’s list for top 25 toys
The department store chain also released its list of top 25 toys for the holiday season with exceptional values, such as the Camelio Android Family 7” tablet, Fisher Price Imaginext Pirate Ship, and Monster High Jewelry Box Coffin & Doll Gift Set from Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAT).
“Customers can shop with confidence knowing we have significantly expanded our online toy assortment and have a deep selection of trusted national toy brands, such as Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAT), Playskool and Vtech Holdings Ltd (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VTKLY) (HKG:0303), available at prices everyone can afford,” said Gass.
Retailers temporary employment
Last year, the department store chain hired more than 52,700 associates. Other retailers such as Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) hired as many as 90,000 temporary workers. Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M), and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) hired 80,000 and 50,000 seasonal employees, respectively.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) implemented a new business strategy in June. The retail giant started hiring temporary workers outside the holiday season. According to Wal-Mart’s spokesperson David Tovar, the retail giant new hiring policy ensures that its stores have enough staff during the busiest days. According to him, temporary workers receive the same starting pay as other workers.
The stock price of Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) is up by 1 percent to $52.90 per share at the time of this writing.
