BBM For Android And iPhone: BlackBerry Is 100% Committed

Updated on

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) may release BBM for Android sometime soon. The long awaited application was supposed to be released more than a week ago, but the Canadian handset maker is once again facing massive problems with the launch. The application is not around yet, but there are a large amount of fake BBM applications on the Google Play store.

BBM For Android And iPhone: BlackBerry Is 100% Committed

The real BBM from the actual BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) can be found at this link. That’s the link to BlackBerry as a developer. The application has not been released just yet, but the company said in a Tweet today that it is still “100 percent committed to bringing #BBM to Android and iPhone.” That hasn’t stopped people being tricked by the fake applications out there.

The real BBM for Android

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has been teasing the launch of BBM for Android for a long time, but the application is still not available. Today marks more than a week since the botched launch of the product. The initial launch was planned for September 21 and 22. It was scuppered after a number of older leaked versions caused issues.

Hackers and other disreputable application developers are trying to profit off of the unclear message from BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY), and anybody who thinks they have BBM for Android right now should delete the application. The fake versions are almost all free, but there may be dangerous software hiding under the hood.

There were worries that the launch might be cancelled in the wake of the acquisition of BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) by Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. (TSE:FFH). BlackBerry wants to nip those rumors in the bud.

The future of BBM for Android and iOS

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) was supposed to be releasing BBM for Android and iOS in a last ditch effort to make itself more valuable. The company signed a letter of intent last week that will see it become a part of Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. (TSE:FFH), assuming due diligence works out.

That means that BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is not relying on BBM for Android and iOS in order to save it. The company is clear that it still intends to launch BBM on other platforms, however, but users should watch out for the fake Android applications still doing the rounds.
