Initial jobless claims for the week ending August 17 were a seasonally adjusted 336k, the U.S. Department of Labor reports. This is a small increase from the previous week’s revised reading of 323k. Unemployment claims for the week not seasonally adjusted were 279k.
The insured unemployment rate was unchanged at a seasonally adjusted 2.3%.
The number of unemployment insurance recipients, or continuing claims, was a seasonally adjusted 2.999 million. This is an increase from the prior week’s revised reading of 2.970 million.
