Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) next-gen iPhone 5S will be powered by a relatively faster ‘A7’ chip, and will also incorporate a separate chip for motion tracking, says a tweet feed from Fox News reporter Clayton Morris.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone 5S To Sport 31% Faster 'A7' Chip

Next-Gen iPhone 31 percent faster

Morris said that the new iPhone 5S will be fitted with an Apple-designed “A7” system chip, which is 31 percent faster compared to A6 silicon used in the iPhone 5. Advancing speed by 31 percent will be a major advantage to users.

There is no insight as to how Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is enhancing the speed of its processor. Analyst Ming–Chi Kuo of KGI securities mentioned that a shift to ARMv8 architecture could yield a 20 percent increase in efficiency. He also said that Apple may come up with a 64 bit support in A7, which will further drive the speed.

A separate chip for motion tracking

Morris mentioned in his tweet, “I’ve also heard there’s a separate chip devoted to motion tracking. Should be an interesting camera upgrade.” One can extract from the tweet that an unknown chip might be in the iPhone’s camera package, which could be a special post processor.

At present, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is in ownership of various patents regarding post processing techniques, like a technique that can interpolate camera sensor data for tasks apart from outputting an image, like “gaze detection.” There are patents that incorporate a separate chip, fitted on the sensor module’s circuit board, to assist in processing duties.

Apple may add these additional features also

The next-Gen iPhone could also differ on one major feature, which is a 64 bit capability that is believed to be undergoing tests. It is expected that the A7 chip will be assisted by 64-bit in displaying smoother animations, transparencies, and other iOS 7 graphical effects compared to present one.

Apart from the processor and camera, another expected feature is a fingerprint sensor. Sensors embedded into the phone will not get activated by a single swipe—instead the user will have to hold the home button to activate the device.

There have been rumors that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will announce the iPhone 5S, and possibly the low cost “iPhone 5C”, at a special event on September 10.
