Mohamed Morsi Removed in Egypt;  Mohamed ElBaradei New Interim PM

Mohamed ElBaradei, a member of the National Salvation Front, was chosen to be Egypt’s interim Prime Minister, Reuters News Agency reported a presidential source as saying, following revolution which forced out Mohamed Morsi as the country’s president.

ElBaradei, the Dostour Party founder and Nobel Prize Laureate, will be sworn in as Egypt’s interim Prime Minister on Saturday evening, Khaled Dawood, a party member said, said.

Interim President Adli Mansour met with ElBaradei earlier today at the presidency’s headquarters, the state news agency.

“Tamarod” (Rebel) movement, the “Strong Egypt” Party head Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh and others agreed to nominate ElBaradei for this position.

Egypt interim president appoints new media advisor

The Egyptian interim President, Adli Mansour, issued a decree on Saturday, appointing TV Host Ahmed Al-Muslimani as his media advisor, reported the state news agency.

The president received Muslimani earlier at the presidential palace, according to the Middle East News Agency.

Mohamed Morsi the former president is under guard in Cairo currently.

Leading Muslim Brotherhood figures investigated for incitement to murder

The state prosecution started investigations with leading figures of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood on Saturday on charges attributed to them of inciting the murder of nine people and the attempted murder of others in the clashes that took place outside their main headquarters.

The defendants are the Brotherhood former Supreme Guide, Mohamed Mahdi Akef, the Supreme Guide Deputy, Khairat El-Shater, and the Head of the group’s Freedom and Justice Party, Saad Al-Katatni, according to the state news agency.Former president, Mohamed Morsi was not included in the list.

Egypt’s interim president meets with defence and interior ministers

The Egyptian interim President, Adli Mansour, met on Saturday with Defence Minister Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim in the presidential palace.

Mansour also met with his three new aides, reported the state news agency.

The interim president, who was sworn into office on Thursday, is expected to announce the formation of a national unity government and a constitutional declaration soon. Mohamed Morsi the former president, led a narrow government full of members from the Muslim Brotherhood.

Mansour dissolved the upper house of parliament on Friday and appointed Mohamed Ahmed Farid as head of intelligence instead of Mohamed Raafat Shehata who became his security advisor.

Mohamed Morsi supporters and opponents clash leaves 14 injured in Beheira

Clashes erupted on Saturday between opponents and supporters of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in Beheira leaving 14 people injured.

The clashes began after the supporters tried to stage a rally from a mosque in Damnhour, but the opponents prevented them from rallying and besieged four of them inside a shop in the area, reported an Aswat Masriya eyewitness.

Central Security Forces deployed six cars in order to separate both sides and fired teargas bombs to disperse them. The forces rescued the besieged supporters before they were assaulted.

Beheria’s prosecution has ordered the detention of 24 members of the Muslim Brotherhood on charges of attempted murder in relation to violence that flared up on Friday.  Mohamed Morsi protesters caused numerous casualties on Friday in Cairo as they tried to reach anti Mohamed Morsi protests in Tahrir square.

Egyptian priest shot dead in North Sinai

Unknown assailants shot dead a Christian priest outside his home in North Sinai on Saturday, security sources said.

Eyewitnesses said that the assailants were riding a car when they shot Priest Mina Aboud Sharween, pastor of Arish’s Masaeed church, and fled.

He was transferred to Al-Arish General Hospital, but he was not rescued.

Another car opened fire on a police officer on the Arish Ring Road, wounding him. He was also transferred to the hospital.

In another area of Northern Sinai, unidentified gunmen ambushed a military checkpoint in the area of Kharouba, which led to the injury of one soldier.

There is no word yet whether the attacks are related to the revolution against Mohamed Morsi.

“Rebel” members to meet with Egypt’s interim president

A delegation from Egypt’s “Rebel” campaign group is going to meet with Interim President Adly Mansour on Sunday at the presidential palace, the campaign announced on its website.

The meeting will be aimed at discussing the roadmap for the transitional phase, the formation of the next cabinet, and some of the details of the the army statement that ousted President Mohamed Morsi with the interim president.

The “Rebel” campaign representatives who are going  attend the meeting are the spokesman of the campaign, Mahmoud Badr and two of its founding members; Mohamed Abdel-Aziz and Hassan Shahin.

On Wednesday, Egypt’s top army commander Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that the army has agreed with political forces to suspend the constitution and delegate the head of the constitutional court as an interim president until early presidential elections are held.

The Rebel campaign is widely credited for its role in collecting signatures against the ousted president and mobilising for the mass protests that resulted in the removal of Mohamed Morsi.

The campaign urged the people to take the streets again on Sunday to “continue the revolution” and reinstate Mohamed Morsi as president.
