Updated on

Most of the iPhone 6 rumors we hear just keep coming back, and now we have the return of one of the more unbelievable rumors that have surfaced: a 5.7-inch screen. This time the rumor comes with an expected release date in early 2014, which is similar to the expected iPhone 6 release date given elsewhere.

iPhone 6: Another Rumor About A 5.7-Inch Screen, LTE-A Tech

iPhone 6 With A Bigger Screen?

The source of this refreshed rumor is Korea’s IT News. That original report is in relation to iPads with different sizes, although International Business Times’ Erik Pineda is taking it more specifically in the iPhone 6 direction. Patently Apple provides a more through explanation of the original report from IT News in Korea.

The basic report is that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is working on diversifying the “size and variety of their smart pads.” In order words, the company may release an iPad Mini with a Retina display, as expected, which would account for variety, but what about size? Patently Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) points to earlier reports that the company might come out with a larger iPad, but we’ve heard more recently that an iPhone 6 with a larger screen is possible, so perhaps this is what the Korean report is indicating. A large part of the tech world sees the rumors of a 5.7-inch iPhone 6 as dubious, however.

iPhone 6 / 5S With LTE-A Tech

But whether or not Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is working on a 5.7-inch iPhone 6, there is another rumor in the mill this morning. This one also comes from a Korean source, this time the Korean Times, which reports that the next iPhone might have high speed LTE capabilities. Patently Apple also covered this rumor, which comes from an anonymous SK Telecom executive, who said the company approached Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) with the idea of putting its LTE-A technology on the iPhone 5S. This is undoubtedly a reference to the regular numbering system used by Apple, which makes the next model the iPhone 5S, although there has been debate about whether the iPhone 6 will be next.

The technology would make it possible for users to download data at 150 Mbps, which is double the speed of the previous technology. Apple Inc. ()NASDAQ:AAPL) is supposedly planning to use Korea as a test to gauge how well LTE-A technology could be marketed to users, specifically, those in China.
