An Asiana Airlines plane, Boeing 777, has crashed at San Francisco International Airport, Fox News reports
A Boeing 777 aircraft has crash-landed at San Francisco international airport, killing at least one person and injuring as many as 30, diplomats say.

Firefighters and rescue teams are at the scene of the downed Asiana Airlines Flight 214, which had taken off from South Korea’s capital, Seoul.

The cause of the crash is unclear.

Early indications suggest the plane came in too short and hit the seawall at the airport.

Eight adults and two children who suffered critical injuries are being treated at San Francisco General Hospital, hospital spokesperson Rachael Kagan said.

Asiana Airlines Plane Crash At SFO Asiana Airlines Had Prior Plane Crashes With Fatalities. An Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 crashed and burned at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday, killing two people and injuring 61 others. The deadly crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday on runway 28 behind Terminal 2 — the international terminal, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The San Francisco Fire Dept. confirmed to KCBS that there were two deaths and 61 injuries from the crash. At San Francisco General Hospital, officials said eight adults and two children were listed in critical condition. The plane that crashed was flight 214 from Seoul, South Korea, initially said to be a cargo plane — but later was identified as a passenger jet. The airline said 291 people were on board, including a group of vacationing Korean school children. Eyewitnesses at the airport saw passengers evacuated by emergency slides from the plane after the crash. The crash happened as the jet was landing. Two passengers on the plane relayed to a San Carlos relative by cell phone that the pilot appeared to land short of the runway. Witnesses said they heard a loud noise, saw the tail came apart from the plane, and then watched a fireball and black smoke shoot into the sky, visible for miles. “The plane started coming in at an odd angle, there was a huge bang and you could see the cloud of huge black smoke,” observed Kate Belding, who was jogging near the airport at the time of the crash. “It was a horrible thud,” said Kelly Thompson, who saw it unfold from the parking lot of the Westin Hotel at the airport. “The airliner bounced and then slid to a stop on the runway.” Rescue vehicles were on the scene immediately afterwards and there was a major triage operation taking place.The airport was closed and no flights were being allowed in or out of SFO after the crash. Flights were being diverted to the international airports in Oakland and San Jose. The National Transportation Safety Board said it was sending a team of investigators to SFO to probe the cause of the crash. Although airport authorities initially referred to the crash site to a KCBS reporter as a “crime scene,” a national security official told CNN there were no signs of terrorism as it related to the crash.
