Samsung launched three new tablets under its Galaxy Tab 3 series in India. The devices are cheaper than the iPad Mini of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) by 4,000 rupees, according to a report from the Hindustan Times.
The latest move of the South Korean electronics manufacture clearly demonstrates its intensified effort to compete against Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and to capture a larger market share in India.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) released three variants of the Samsung Galaxy Tab series with 8-inch and 7-inch displays. The price range of the cheaper tablets is between 17,745 rupees to 25, 725 rupees. The devices will be available in the Indian market on Sunday.
Samsung cheaper than Apple
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, equipped with a 7-inch display, is powered by the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Android 4.1 operating system. It is integrated with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with 1 GB Ram and 3-MP rear camera. Its price tag is 17,745 rupees, which is cheaper than Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPad Mini, which costs 21,990 rupees. However, the device is more expensive than Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Nexus 7 with a price tag of 15,999 rupees.
On the other hand, the 8-inch Samsung Galaxy tab is available in WiFi only, which costs 21,945 rupees and the WiFi plus 3G tab costs 25,725 rupees. The tablets are powered by Android 4.2 operating system with 1.5 GHz dual core processor, equipped with 1.5 GB RAM, and 5-MP rear camera.
Samsung: “We expect to maintain our leadership position”
Vineet Taneja, head of mobile and imaging business of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) in India said, “We expect to maintain our leadership position in the tablet market in the country.”
The South Korean electronics company has 62% share in the tablet market in India in terms of value. Between 2012 -2013, approximately 1.65 million tablets were sold in the country.
Earlier this month, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) also released the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, with 10x optical zoom and Galaxy S4 Mini, its powerful compact smartphone in the Indian market.
