Apple Inc. (AAPL) Shuts Down Apple Store Ahead Of WWDC

Updated on

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has taken down its online store, just as it does every year for its annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference (WWDC). This is pretty much a tradition for the company, so you can expect to see the Apple Store go down several times this week.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) takes it down ahead of every press event so that it can update the store with the new products. As a general rule, it usually comes back up within minutes after the company’s executives finish making their comments at each press event.

Apple’s Live Video Stream For WWDC

There were initially questions about whether Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would stream its keynote speech at WWDC live over the Internet, but the company did put up its official streaming pages. At this point there are two streams, although both of them require you to use an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)Apple product.

Web users need to use Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Safari Web browser, either on their Mac computers or on an iOS device. The company is also streaming the keynote speech directly to its Apple TV boxes. TechCrunch is also live blogging the event if you prefer to read about it.

WWDC Keynote Speech Starts At 1 p.m. ET

This year at WWDC, we’re not necessarily expecting a lot of new hardware. It’s expected that iOS 7 will be the main event, especially since this is a software-focused event. Other possibilities for WWDC include new Mac computers and MacAir laptops.

Some have speculated that we will see either the iPhone 6 / 5S or a new iPad at this year’s event, but many analysts now agree that new versions of these two flagship products are unlikely at WWDC. Nevertheless, since the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Store is down, it’s likely that we will see some new products during this keynote speech. The company likes to get those new products up and available as quickly as possible.
