Jordan Hubbard, who led the development of BSD and Unix technologies for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and OS X will leave the company to take up a new role in holding the engineering reins at iXsystems, as announced on Tuesday.

New Role at iXsystems

On Tuesday, iXsystems announced that it is bringing in Jordan Hubbard, who according to his LinkedIn profile is the Director of Software Engineering at Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). iXsystems also announced that Hubbard will take up the role of leading engineering and development at iXsystems. He will take up control of opensource Storage platform FreeNAS and will also make an effort to increase the user base for the TrueNAS Unified Storage Appliance by adding features such as new capabilities, object storage, simpler cloud integration, and high-performance real-time data duplication.

The other future projects related to upcoming enterprises and consumer markets will also be handled by Hubbard.

Hubbard Contributions at Apple

Hubbard’s total experience as a software engineer is impressive.  He was the co-founder of the FreeBSD project before joining Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in 2001. After joining Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Hubbard has worked as director of software engineering, taking forward the development of BSD and UNIX technologies, which are used in Mac OS X and iOS.

Hubbard Excited by Move

Hubbard describes himself as a “long time advocate of and contributor to open source as a method for engineering collaboration and building new communities.”  According to Hubbard, his specialties are user interface design and the making of developer toolkits.

Hubbard said that he is feeling excited after getting a chance to lead iXsystems through its next level of professional and technological development. He said that it is a great opportunity for him to work for a company which is popular for its strong support of FreeBSD, and other open source software. Hubbard said that he will guide the company to attain new phases of success with TrueNAS storage appliances and is looking forward to a opportunity to create innovative products.
