A new report claims the iPad Mini 2 could be delayed. Citing sources from supply chains, DigiTimes reports that the next generation iPad Mini from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could trail behind the iPad 5.
Production Delays For Apple iPad Mini 2:
Production for the next iPad will likely begin volume production in July or August. However, the volume production for the iPad Mini 2 may not begin until November. The delay may be caused by either mass production problems or perhaps the deliberate postponing of the next iPad Mini. Apparently, there are concerns that the iPad Mini 2 could cut into potential sales for the iPad 5. It would make sense that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would want to release the new tablets at different times for this very reason.
Like previous rumors indicate, the iPad 5 will feature a slim bezel and overall lightweight design. It’s also reported that it will have a more industrial design and could look similar to the iPad Mini.
Paul Briden for Know Your Mobile thinks a deliberate delay would be strange. He said, “The source suggest Apple may have deliberately delayed the iPad Mini 2 in order to ensure it does not negatively impact sales of the full-size iPad 5. The report claims Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has ‘turned its product focus for 2013 to the new 9.7-inch iPad.’ To us this sounds a bit daft.”
The iPad is another big seller for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and although the iPad Mini is a big seller for them, the larger iPad costs more and provides them with more revenue. Apple will probably take the same route if and when they launch the iPhone Mini. There have been numerous reports that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will release a smaller version of their popular phone to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Mini smartphone. The smaller versions of popular smartphones were designed to attract budget-minded buyers.
There is little doubt Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will release the second iPad Mini, it just may happen later than expected.
