Apple Inc. (AAPL) Applies To Trademark 'iWatch' In Russia

There have been numerous rumors of a purported watch from Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), but the company has yet to confirm anything. The rumored iWatch would be a technically advanced gadget that would work in conjunction with the iPhone.

Apple’s filing of ownership of product:

Sam Oliver for Apple Insider reminds us, “Apple has filed for ownership of product names before their official announcement in the past, but historically those registrations have been done discreetly overseas under shell corporation names. For example, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) began obtaining the international rights to the iPad name early as 2006 through a British shell corporation named “IP Application Development Limited,” or “IPAD Ltd.”

However, this week’s report shows that the filing wasn’t done in the same level of secrecy. It also reports that the iWatch was first trademarked in Jamaica late last year.

Apples iWatch arrival:

One analyst for KGI Securities, Ming-Chi Kuo, speculates the iWatch won’t arrive until the latter part of 2014. He also speculates that the smart watch will feature a 1.5 inch to 2 inch screen and will feature a focus on biometric feedback.

Just how well would consumers respond to the iWatch if Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was to unveil such a device? A survey from ChangeWave Research shows us that 19 percent of consumers in North America would be interested in the iWatch. Not surprisingly, that number is a little bit higher than the interest in the iPad prior to the unveiling. Back in 2010, there was a hypothetical survey for the then unannounced iPad. Back in 2005, there was a similar survey for an Intel-based Mac computer.

No matter what Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) creates, there is almost always a market that wants their products. There is little doubt that the iWatch would succeed with such an interest in the purported device.
