Prem Watsa’s Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (OTCMKTS:FRFHF) (TSE:FFH) 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) showed that the market value of its stockholdings for the first quarter of 2012 has a total market value of $2,677,560.

Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (OTCMKTS:FRFHF) (TSE:FFH)’s top ten holdings account 91.93 percent of its portfolio. The investment management firm purchased one new stock, increased its stake in four companies, reduced its position in two stocks and sold out four other stocks during the March quarter.

The investment management firm’s top five stockholdings include Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)/Blackberry which represents 29.96 percent, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) 18.08 percent, Resolute Forest Products (NYSE:RFP) 14.96 percent, Level 3 Communications, Inc (NYSE:LVLT) 9.79 percent, and SandRidge Energy, Inc (NYSE:SD) 6.38 percent of its portfolio.

New & Increased Stockholdings

During the quarter, Fairfax Financial bought 37,500 shares of Zhongpin Inc (NASDAQ:HOGS). Its stake in the meat and food products processor and distributor is worth $488,375.  Over the 52-week range, the stock price of the company went up from $9 per share to $13.03 per share. Shares of Zhongpin were trading around $12.93 on Wednesday around 11:40 AM in New York.

FairFax Financial increased its stake in Novadaq Technologies (NASDAQ:NVDQ) by 358,487 shares to 2,358,487 shares. Its total stake in the company has a market value of $23,372,606. Early this month, the company announced the sale of its common shares worth $50.3 million to the public for $12.90 per share. Novadaq develops clinically-proven fluorescence imaging solutions for use in surgical and outpatient wound care procedures.

The investment management firm also purchased additional 5,000 shares of The New York Times Company (NYSE:NYT) bringing its total stockholdings in the newspaper company to 50,000 shares with $490,000 market value. The stock price of NYT is trading around $9.83 on Wednesday noon. Over the 52-week range, the stock value of the company rose from its lowest level at $6.07 per share to its peak at $11.07 per share.

It also bought additional 17,500 shares of Ultra Petroleum Corp (NYSE:UPL) making its total stake in the company to 33,400 shares worth $671,340. Fairfax Financial also acquired additional 140,000 shares of Exco Resources Inc (NYSE:XCO) bringing its total position to 10,812,200 shares worth $77, 090, 987.

Watsa’s Reduced & Sold Out Positions

Fairfax Financial sold out its entire position AuRico Gold Inc (NYSE:AUQ) (TSE:AUQ), Frontier Communications Corp (NASDAQ:FTR), Nexen Inc (NYSE:NXY) (TSE:NXY), and Teavana Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:TEA). The investment management firm reduced its stockholdings in U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) by 196,600 shares and Wells Fargo & Co (NYSE:WFC) by 424,024 shares.
