The Samsung I9295 Galaxy S4 Active has been rumored for quite some time, and now we have the latest leaked shots of the device, courtesy of GSMArena. The S4 Active is Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)’s water resistant and tough phone in the Galaxy S4 lineup.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) does have some experience in the waterproofing game, but this would be the first time that the company is trying to come out with a high-end smartphone, that’s rugged, dust and water resistant. The leaked images show a device in striking red color, and if the specifications in the image are indeed true, then other companies like Sony should fear this new phone from Samsung.
Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) (TYO:6758) is also popular in the waterproof phone category, with the Sony Xperia Z and the newly announced Xperia ZR. Both of these phones are waterproof for a certain water level, and for a certain time period. Sony smartly uses the phone’s quality of being waterproof in their advertisement and marketing campaign. But now with Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Xperia will face a tough competition from the Korean company.
The S4 Active is expected to come with a quad-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 SoC, Adreno 320 GPU, and a 5-inch Super AMOLED Full HD (1920 x 1080) display. However, the S4 Active would likely have a slightly smaller screen size, as according to the images, it has a 480 pixel density (PPI).
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Features
According to the reports, the Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) Galaxy S4 Active will have an 8-megapixel camera, which is a downgrade from the 13-megapixel camera of the Galaxy S4. Unlike the Galaxy S4 that features touch sensitive buttons, this device has physical home, menu and back buttons. The device features rubberized edges, and metallic shell with screws on the back.
Now that Samsung has started to ship the S4 worldwide, it is now rumored that the company will launch different variants of the phone to address different smaller niche markets. There are also rumors of a Galaxy S4 mini and a rugged Galaxy S4 which we now know would be the Galaxy S4 Active.
