The iPhone 6 isn’t expected out until next summer, but already it’s getting more attention than the iPhone 5S, which is due out this year. Perhaps it’s to be expected. After all, the iPhone 5S is just a small upgrade, so we probably won’t see any major improvements until the iPhone 6 comes out next year.
iPhone 6 Speculation
So what can we expect when the iPhone 6 comes out? Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s acquisition of AuthenTec last year added fuel to the fire in terms of speculation about fingerprint authentication. It’s certainly too early to expect that with the iPhone 5S this year, so it makes sense that we’ll see it with the iPhone 6.
And then there are the questions about screen size. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Tim Cook sidestepped questions about whether the iPhone would ever get a larger screen size, so it’s doubtful that we’ll see that with the iPhone 5S. It’s probably more likely than fingerprint authentication, but such a big leap might make more sense for the iPhone 6, since it’s not just a small update.
Jefferies analyst Peter Misek said Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) appears now to be preparing the supply chain for the iPhone 6, which means we should hear more concrete details about what to expect from the device. He’s expecting a larger screen and new colors, as well as the easily predictable elements like a faster processor.
Apple iOS Updates
We should also see plenty of improvements to iOS, and these improvements may come this year or next year. The expected mobile payment platform should be easier to roll out this year than some of the other expectations for the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6.
