Tim Cook in an interview explained why Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is not making a phablet and instead launching only iPhones. Cook was present at D11 and was speaking with All Thing D’s Walt Mossberg and Karla Swisher.

Mossberg asked Cook why Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launches only one iPhone every year to which Cook replied that though this has been the trend, but it is not necessary that it would continue in the future, as well. The statement from Cook strengthens the speculation of a low priced Apple iPhone.

Apple CEO Tim Cook’s Statement

The CEO of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) said that great efforts are put behind getting right hardware, software and services in a phone. He said that Apple does not want to focus on multiple things as of now instead it is focusing on one model at a time. The iPhone maker does not want to deviate in a quest of producing multiple models. On being questioned on why Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is not coming up with a phablet, Cook said that in order to increase the screen size, other features like brightness, battery life and longevity of the screen are to be compromised.

“My only point is these products all served a different person, a different type, they served different needs,” Cook said. “For the phone that is the question. Are we now at a point to serve enough people that we need to do that?”

Cook said that consumers want a phone, which apart from having a big display, incorporates features like good colours to the pictures, white balance, reflectivity, and battery life. He said that customers expect from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) that it will compare what is good for them and will bring out the best.

Low priced device

There are speculations around that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will come up with a low priced iPhone, which would be cased in plastic hybrid material to cut down on manufacturing costs. Pegatron, who is a partner supplier is believed to hire a massive 40,000 additional workers for the second half of 2013, which only predicts that manufacturing of a new product will start.

It is expected that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will also launch in the market the updated version of the phones rather than only selling the latest two generations of its iPhone.

In the previous year’s interview, Cook said that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will do more efforts in order to maintain secrecy. Cook also said that there will be some extra features in the Siri and manufacturing will be shifted in the United States.
