Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) To Offer Loaner Vehicles With Valet Service

Updated on

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has announced that its Model S Performance edition and its Roadster will be offered as loaners to owners when their own vehicles are in the shop for warranty repairs, according to CNET. According to the automaker, its battery warranty will take care of everything except intentional damage and crashes. Because the automaker handles its own sales by selling directly to consumers, it’s up to it rather than dealers to take care of warranty, service and loaner car problems.

No matter which Model S owners have, they will be able to choose from either of the two loaner vehicles from Tesla. The Model S Performance edition starts out at $87,400. Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) also said if owners want to upgrade their vehicle, they can buy their loaner car using a 1-percent per month depreciation rate according to the age of their car and $1 per mile on the vehicle’s odometer. Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) said it would take the loaner car to the vehicle owner’s home and pick up the car that must be serviced.

In a separate announcement focusing on the battery packs used in the company’s vehicles, it said it would honor the eight-year warranty by putting in a new battery pack for any reason other than for crashes, intentional damage or if the battery is opened by someone other than a Tesla worker. The company also said it would honor the warranty even if the owner doesn’t schedule the vehicle for maintenance each year.

As of the moment of this writing, shares of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) were up .17 percent.
