Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s launch of Z10 devices received a lukewarm response in the United States. But Z10 sales got a real boost when the device came on Verizon Wireless, according to the New York Times. The mobile online traffic analysis by Chitika, an online advertising network reveals that the traffic from BlackBerry Z10 was low initially, almost doubled after the device debuted on Verizon Wireless.

Chitika has the capabilities to identify the model of smartphone and its operating system when users visit Webpages on which ads are hosted by Chitika. The Westborough, Mass.-based advertising network said that its analysis covered tens of millions of page views coming from all models of BlackBerry.

When BlackBerry Z10 was launched in Canada, it had relatively modest effects on North American Web traffic as the population of Canada is just 10 percent of the U.S. population. Z10 was selling in Canada for 45 days before it debuted in the United States on AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T). Before the U.S. launch, BlackBerry Z10 contributed just 2.7 percent of total BlackBerry traffic tracked by Chitika. When AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and T-Mobile USA started selling the device in the U.S., the figure increased to 2.9 percent.

But the real boost came when Verizon Wireless started selling the smartphone on March 28. Within just two weeks, the traffic from BlackBerry Z10 increased to 5.3 percent of the total North American BlackBerry traffic. Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) have long been reliable partners, so Verizon lent more marketing support on Z10 launch compared to its competitors.

Chitika’s analytical tools can only track the number of page views from a specific smartphone model and the operating system. So it couldn’t estimate the number of BlackBerry Z10 smartphones currently being used in North America.

Chitika expects that the launch of BlackBerry Q10 will further increase the sales of Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB). BlackBerry Q10 comes with a physical keyboard as well as touch screen that will attract the loyal BlackBerry customers. Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) has already increased BlackBerry 10 builds.

Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) shares were up 1.29 percent to $14.10 at 11:30 AM EDT.
