Game Informer revealed the May cover of their magazine which also served as the game’s announcement today. “Batman: Arkham Origins.” reads the cover. Not surprisingly, the cover is quite black. Until the magazine goes to print it will simply be a matter of Holy Speculation Batman!! Well, that’s not quite accurate. It’s believed that “Batman: Arkham Origins” will be set one year before the first two releases and will feature a rougher less refined Batman as he begins his ascension or decent into the Dark Knight character of graphic novel, film, and video game fame.

The publisher’s WB Games Montreal studio will take over development duties from Rocksteady Studios, who created the first two titles. Given the success of the first two titles, The 2011 game “Batman: Arkham City” shipped 4.6 million copies during its first week, double that of “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” Warner Brothers is taking a big risk by developing the game in-house.

This risk will however be tempered by the fact that WB Games Montreal will have access to the customized Unreal engine used by Rocksteady Games for the previous “Batman” videogames which should provide players, who have grown to love the series, with some continuity in game play. That is not to say that WB Games Montreal couldn’t step outside the box and make some major alterations.

Warner Bros. is also developing a handheld Batman title for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita called Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. The 2.5-dimensional adventure is presently under development by Armature Studio.

According to Game Informer, Deathstroke is among the main villains appearing in” Arkham Origins.” Short of that revelation, WB is keeping this one pretty close to the vest. Holy Anticipation Batman!!
