‘Facebook Home’ Might Be An Android Homescreen Replacement

Published on

There have been rumours of a Facebook phone for some time now. However, this time, Facebook is conducting a Facebook Home event on April 4th and everybody is excited about this event. So what can this event unveil for us? Well, according to Android Police, it might be a new Facebook phone by HTC codenamed as HTC Myst.

According to a system dump, it seems that Facebook Home will be a replacement that runs on HTC’s Sense 4.5 skin, and on Android 4.1.2. Note that the most recent version is Sense 5 running on HTC One but for some reason, the phone runs on Sense 4.5.

Unfortunately, Android Police was not able to login to the Facebook software as only Facebook employees can login at this moment. This means that most of the details are hidden behind that login process. However, basically this Facebook Home will be just an extension of the existing Facebook app which is integrated into an Android launcher, much like the third party launchers available from the Play Store.

It might be also possible that this Facebook Home can run on phones other than HTC devices. Also the Facebook Home won’t change the core OS, as it will still be Android, but think of it as a new launcher integrated on your phone.

Facebook Phone Specs:

  • Manufacturer: HTC
  • Model: MYSTUL (Myst_UL)
  • Carrier: AT&T
  • Platform: MSM8960 (Dual Core)
  • Ram: 1GB
  • Display: 4.3 inch @ 720p resolution
  • Android Version: 4.1.2
  • Sense Version: 4.5
  • Rear Camera = 5M
  • Front Camera = 1.6M
  • No SD Card
  • Bluetooth 4.0

Of course, these specs are not set in stone, and would remain just a rumour until the official launch. Since there’s no way to login to Facebook, more details cannot be found at this moment. We’ll need to wait for the official event on April 4th to know what Facebook has in store for us.
