Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s executive chairman recently took some time to answer a question that many people have been wondering about for some time now: will Android and Chrome ever merge into one?
In a recent interview with the press, he said that Android and Chrome will not be combined. He also mentioned that there may be an overlap involving both systems in the future. Android is a mobile operating system and Chrome is a cloud-based operating system for computers. Combining them into one could prove to be a tough task, especially for Android fans.
Last week, the possibility of Chrome and Android merging into one product came into light when Andy Rubin was succeeded by Sundar Pichai, who then became the head of the mobile department as well as remaining the lead for Chrome. Then the search giant’s chief executive officer said that he wasn’t certain if there were changes or not.
During the press junket, Schmidt also addressed the rumours about him leaving the company; he said those rumours are false.
Android is the number one competitor against Apple iOS in terms of quality and ease of use. Although it doesn’t necessarily have the faithful fanbase Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) does, it’s still holding it’s own quite well. Since the recent introduction of the Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) Galaxy wasn’t received with the fanfare that was initially expected, it may not be able to keep up with Apple’s pace in the current market.
Google’s Android and Chrome systems bring a lot of enhancements to the company and it’s crucial that both programs are left as is for now. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) needs to keep their focus on the companies as is, maybe in the near future, they can find a way to merge these products together. There may come a time when they have to combine resources and save money. In such a scenario, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) should keep the resources together.
