General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has announced that it’s recalling 33,700 Buicks and Cadillacs from the current model year. The recall affects Cadillac SRX crossovers and Buick LaCrosse sedans, and it’s due to a possible issue with software loaded on the vehicles’ computers.
According to General Motors Company (NYSE:GM), the issue could result in the transmission accidentally slipping from manual into Sport mode. The automaker said there haven’t been any reports of wrecks or injuries in connection with the problem.
About 26,500 of the affected vehicles are in the U.S., and the others are spread across China, the Middle East, Mexico and Canada. As part of the recall, GM dealers will reprogram the control for free.
The company found the software problem when testing the 2014 models of the vehicles, although it has not identified precisely what the problem is. GM said the recall will begin March 28.
Meanwhile Reuters reports that in a separate recall, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) also recalled 48 Chevrolet Express full-size vans from the model year 2011. This recall only affected the compressed natural gas versions of those vans. This recall involved a correction of a relief vent pipe that could have been built incorrectly, allowing natural gas to flow into the passenger area and possibly increasing the possibility of a fire or explosion occurring.
The automaker said all of the vans were sold to three customers in the U.S. and one dealer, and it has inspected all of the vans. There were not wrecks, fires or injuries reported in connection with this recall either.
Shares of General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) rose more than 2 percent in Wednesday afternoon trading.
