Apple Inc. (AAPL) Destroys Conversation, Saves The Environment

I can’t help but compare the smartphone to the omnipresent New York City television set. No matter what the setting is: be it the “hot” restaurant where a reservation required a promise of your first born child, a quaint, and yet still unknown side street bistro, or an Indian restaurant you stumbled upon in Jackson Heights. There is always a TV switched on with a sporting event. It distracts you even when you have no interest in what its broadcasting. The reason for it? The highly competitive nature of the NYC restaurant business, coupled with the horrible nature of New York sports fans who will happily say to their friends, “Don’t eat there. The food was incredible, but you can’t watch the freaking game.”

In defence of those who demand 162 Yankees’ games, 82 Knicks’ games, 82 Nets’ Games, 16 Jets’ Games, another 16 Giants games, on at all time…you get my point before I even mentioned hockey. I also forgot the Mets’ and their 162 games, but in my defence the Mets also forget their last 40 games each year. The defence I forgot? They’re so much better than the fans of both Boston and Philadelphia.

The smartphone is the same. It provides unwanted distractions. It kills conversation. That little “ping” of a new text or email could lure my attention from a date with an intelligent supermodel. They have those? Thank you Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). It’s time you gave something back. You have?

According to a Fox News report, and I use “news” loosely, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is giving something back. Or at least doing their best. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is now 75% powered by renewable energy that includes solar, wind, hydro and geothermal power. While not technically giving back, yet, they are certainly trying. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is now the owner of the world’s largest privately owned solar array. It’s location? Their Maiden, N.C., data center.

“In 2012, we completed construction on the nation’s largest end user–owned, onsite solar photo-voltaic array on land surrounding the data centre,” the company disclosed on Friday, announcing plans to shoot for 100 percent renewable power sources.  The 100-acre, 20-megawatt facility can produce 42 million kWh of renewable energy each year, Apple said to Fox News.

“And we’re currently building a second 20-MW solar photo-voltaic facility on nearby land that should be operational in late 2013,” they continued.

“We won’t stop working until we achieve 100 percent throughout Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL),” the company said.

Nice one Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Now engineer an app I can use to turn off the TV in NYC’s restaurants. Someone has? Available through the iTunes store? No? Oh, it only works on jailbreak phones? Close enough I guess.

While studying economics, Brendan found himself comfortably falling down the rabbit hole of restaurant work, ultimately opening a consulting business and working as a private wine buyer. On a whim, he moved to China, and in his first week following a triumphant pub quiz victory, he found himself bleeding on the floor based on his arrogance. The same man who put him there offered him a job lecturing for the University of Wales in various sister universities throughout the Middle Kingdom. While primarily lecturing in descriptive and comparative statistics, Brendan simultaneously earned an Msc in Banking and International Finance from the University of Wales-Bangor. He's presently doing something he hates, respecting French people. Well, two, his wife and her mother in the lovely town of Antigua, Guatemala.
