Super Bowl Is One Of The Most-watched Event In U.S. TV History

Last night’s Super Bowl XLVII game reached tv ratings records. The show, which aired on CBS, ended on a high note for the Baltimore Ravens. Although they don’t quite have the stats or numbers yet, they should have them by the end of the day.

Despite the delayed numbers, Nielson reports that this year’s game scored 48.1 ratings, with 71 percent shares in the select big city measurement. It scored one percent over last year’s game.

In the last three years, the Super Bowl has been the most watched televised event in the United States. One rating point came to represent 1,147,000 million homes, which is about one percent of the 114.7 million television households. That also means that 71 percent of the nation’s television sets were tuned to this year’s Super Bowl.

One report from The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the event’s ratings peaked up from 52.9 between the time of 10:30 PM to 10:45 PM.  This was all right after the San Francisco 49ers started getting closer to the Baltimore Ravens.

One of the highlights of last night’s show was Beyonce’s performance. One of the lowlights of the event was the brief power outage that occurred in the Superdome during the game. At press time, the root cause of the outage was yet to be determined.

Roger Goodell, the city commissioner, explained that the power failure would have no impact on future Super Bowl games. He also reminded people that the blackout didn’t occur during the half-time show.  Goodell and the stadium official said a “root cause analysis” is currently underway.

The Super Bowl also ignited heavy social media activity. According to Trendrr TV, a tracking system that allows people track activity on popular social media networks like Twitter and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). There was an estimated number of social media postings of 47.7 millions.
