A McDonald’s store located in China has apologized for accidentally serving detergent instead of soda. But on the plus side, McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) hasn’t been involved in any horse meat scandals.

McDonald's Apologizes For Serving Detergent Instead Of Soda

MSN reports that a customer at a McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) location in Shenyang, China picked up a soda cup which contained detergent on accident. The restaurant said an employee left a paper soda cup filled with detergent on the counter, and the customer thought it was his soda. He then gave it to his girlfriend, who became very ill immediately after drinking it. She was taken to the hospital and is now suffering from erosive gastritis as a result.

The customer is reported to have returned to the McDonald’s restaurant later to find out what mad his girlfriend so ill. A staff member admitted to leaving the cup containing detergent on the counter. It’s against McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) policy to do that. At this point we don’t know how much of the detergent the woman drank.

Update to Horse Meat Scandal

There’s also an update to the horse meat scandal which led Burger King Worldwide Inc (NYSE:BKW) to dump one of its suppliers. Business Week reports that the Agriculture Department in Ireland said DNA tests indicated that meat from Poland which had been labeled as beef and sold to Rangeland Foods was actually 75 percent horse meat. Freeza Meats, another Irish meat supplier, also said that one batch of its Polish beef contained up to 80 percent horse meat.

The horse meat scandal has been going on for at least a month now throughout the U.K.
