How To Login With A PIN Instead Of A Password In Windows 8

Updated on

Windows 8 is not only designed for Desktop users, but this OS works great on tablets and other touch screen devices also. You can always use the option to set a password to keep your device safe and secure, but those who are using touch screen devices may not want to type a long password. In such a case, a solution would be to use a 4 digit PIN to login to a user account, instead of a password.

Before proceeding, we would like to let you know that pin codes are not as safe as using an alphanumeric password. Use this method only if you don’t want to type a long password on a touch screen based device. Those who are on a PC should use the normal password method.

Using a PIN to Login to Windows 8

How To Login With A PIN Instead Of A Password In Windows 8

Step 1: Bring up the Settings Charm by pressing the Win + I keyboard combination. Click on Change PC settings.

Step 2: This will open the PC settings section. Click on Users.

Step 3: From the right hand side, click on Create a Pin button.

Step 4: If you have already set a password, then enter your existing password to confirm that you are the owner of this account.

Step 5: Now, enter a PIN in both the boxes. Note that your PIN should be only numerical. It cannot contain any alphabets or special characters. Click on Finish.

That’s it. Now login to your account and you will get the login screen which will prompt you to enter the PIN. Enter your PIN and login to your computer.

This method is more convenient than typing a long password. Try it out.
