Facebook Bans Dev Of FB Purity, Addon That's Used To Remove Timeline

Facebook has recently banned the person behind F.B. Purity, a special add-on feature that allows users to customize the website’s appearance on multiple browsers such as Safari, Opera, Chrome, and Firefox.

The creator behind F.B. Purity(Fluff Busting Purity) is currently fighting the ban. On their official website, they claim Facebook banned them over the misuse of Facebook’s terms and conditions.   More specifically, the page alters the appearance and functionality of the popular social networking website.  Additionally, they also ask users to help show their support by commenting on this particular page, following other F.B. Purity pages, and sharing it with others.

The administrator of the website posted the following message on December 19:

VERY IMPORTANT NEWS!* Facebooks legal department have informed me, the developer of the F.B. Purity browser extension, that I am *banned* from using Facebook. This effectively means I will no longer be able to work on the F.B. Purity project any more. I am assuming the F.B. Purity fan page will also be shutdown when they commence the ban. They have not said when the ban will start, but it could happen at any time.

They say the reasons for the ban are:
“Facebook’s terms specifically prohibit interference with the way Facebook is rendered to its users” and that the extension doesnt connect via their “API”, which they say is the approved method for interacting with Facebook’s services.

F.B. Purity is a special extension that allows users to remove their timeline feature, hide annoying application and game posts, and any other “extras” you don’t like.  The website claims that their application, which has been around since 2009, is safe to use and it also features a “Reviews/Testimonials” page which boasts positive reviews from websites like CNET and Lifehacker. The page also has testimonies from fans.

At press time, the F.B. Purity fan page is still up and users can still leave comments.  Facebook has yet to comment on the matter.
