Tudor Investments Increases Stake in Pfizer and Tiffany

 

John Torell, the managing director and chief operating officer of Tudor Investment Corp., invests a large sum of assets in emerging markets and believes in diversification. That is clearly visible in the fund’s  current portfolio. Tudor has $1.9 billion assets under management that are invested in 1,239 stocks (not a typo). The largest holding is iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Indx  (NYSE:EEM), which makes up 6.85% of the portfolio.

According to Tudor Investment’s latest 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the fund made 362 new purchases, 211 additional purchases, exited 408 stocks and reduced holdings in 250 stocks. The top ten holdings contribute to only 25.83 percent of its portfolio. The fund’s stated assets on its 13F, declined from $2.7 billion at the end of Q2 to $1.92 billion on September 30, 2012.

iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Indx  (NYSE:EEM) is the favorite of John Torell. Tudor increased its holding in the iShares Index from 33,000 shares in the second quarter to 3,191,742 shares at the end of Q3. The stake has a valuation of approximately $131.8 million.

Tudor made a new investment in Powershares PowerShares KBW Bank Portfolio ETF (NYSE:KBWB), with a purchase of 3,943,000 shares. Its third biggest holding is in Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE:XLE) which constitutes 5.03 percent of the fund’s portfolio. Tudor bought 1,320,000 shares of Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE:XLE) .

The fund bought 977,824 new shares of Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE:ANF), bringing the total to 995,024 shares with a current market value of $33.75 million. Tudor also made a new investment in Tiffany & Co. (NYSE:TIF) with a  purchase of 402,500 shares. Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) was another major new addition to Tudor’s portfolio. The fund bought 259,700 additional shares of Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE), bringing the total to 407,500 shares.

Closed Positions

Tudor Investment sold its entire holding in SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:SPY) in which Tudor had 741,750 shares at the beginning of the third quarter. The fund also exited Consumer Staples Select Sect. SPDR (NYSE:XLP), the fund previously held 737,355 Consumer Staples Select Sect. SPDR (NYSE:XLP) shares. Finally, the fund sold its entire holding (237,500 shares) in Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE::WPI).
