Samsung Galaxy S 3 Jelly Bean Update Coming To US Soon

Just one day after touting its possible Galaxy 3s mini launch, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) has more news this week.

On Thursday, the company said its update on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software will be coming soon to the U.S., but there’s no specific release date. Updates have already started in numerous countries, including several in Europe.

According to Slashgear.com, the company has a list on its support page, showing which U.S. smartphones will receive the software update. Under the Galaxy S III, it appears under the major carriers with “Coming Soon!” and the following content:

“Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94), Google and the carrier partners are working together to upgrade devices to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as quickly and as smoothly as possible Specific timing for the availability of the Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S III in the U.S. has not been announced.

The Jelly Bean software will offer new features, such as offline voice typing, the automatic arranging of icons, and a predictive keyboard, according to PC Magazine. It will also include Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Now, a deeper use of the company’s Knowledge Graph.

Rumors were swirling that in September Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) would deliver Android 4.1 for the S III in October. That meant international users and US users owning a carrier-branded device, could undergo even longer delays.

If you want to check on a timetable, this is the spot to save.

For Samsung, its Galaxy S III is the most popular and fastest-selling phone for them. It features a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, and 2GB of RAM. The device had initially been released in May, and in its fifth month of sales, it doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon, as consumers head toward the holiday shopping season.

In the phone’s first 100 days of availability, the company said it sold more than 20 million phones. Consumers particularly interested in it included those from North America, Europe, and China.

According to Slashgear’s Chris Davies, 6 million handsets had been sold in Europe, 4.5 million in Asia, 4 million in North America, and 2.5 million in Samsung’s home country of Korea. The company further said in September, that 200,000 S IIIs are sold daily.

Also around the time of the aforementioned sales figures, U.S. analysts claimed the  SIII had taken over the top spot for best-selling smartphones, by kicking Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 4S from its throne, as there were more Android phones sold at the time, than Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s current version of the iPhone.

In the past, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) had caused some to scratch their heads regarding the definition of “sales”; it has occasionally referred to shipments to retailers, rather than to customers.
