Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) wants to enhance mobile user experience for all. A new report indicates that the social media giant is nearing the final stages of a native app for Android. The report says that Facebook is currently testing the Android application, and right after that, they will launch official app for everyone.
The original Facebook app for Android was built on HTML5. The company’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, then said that the app was a mistake, and then he promised to create a native app for users instead.
When Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) introduced their first native app for iOS, it was apparent that ditching HTML5 was the way to go, thanks to it’s stability boost and speed.
If this rumor is true, Facebook will receive a lot more “likes” from Android users, many of whom resorted to perusing the mobile website, rather than the app. No word yet on what this new app will feature, nor do we have an actual release date. I predict an official launch in about a week or two.
Improving mobile applications is just one way that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) can keep their place in the game. Mobile based social media apps are a growing trend, especially as more people ditch their computers for their smartphones, and Android certainly has a big play in the game. Last summer, NPD Research conducted a study that claimed 70 percent of Android users use their smartphones mainly for Facebook. I think Zuckerberg knows this and that’s why he’s in the midst of launching the new app. Let’s just hope that he can launch it in time, otherwise Android users may lose interest.
In the meantime, we will have to wait patiently for Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) to introduce their native app for Android. I’m not sure what Facebook has in mind, but I think most Android users want something that is simply going to work.
