iPhone 5 Codename N42 To Launch With Similar Price Points To iPhone 4S

We’re almost there! 9to5 Mac just reported from sources that Apple will introduce the single generation iPhone model (code name “N42”) next week during the iPhone media event on September 12th.  The N42 is supposedly the iPhone 5, 9to5 Mac reported in all the way back in May.

The same report also claimed the new phone would feature a slightly taller 4 inch display, with a resolution of 1136 by 640, better internals, and iOS 6. They also reported that Apple was creating another iPhone model with the code name “N41”, that would feature NFC technology, but it doesn’t look like Apple went along with that model after all.

According to an unnamed, but well-known retail U.S. retail chain, here is the part code matrix for the upcoming iPhone 5 model:  N42A-USA -$199, N42B-USA-$199, N42A-USA-$299, N42B-USA-$299, N42A-USA-$399, N42B-USA-$399.  A and B represent black and white.

The good news is that if the report is true, the iPhone 5 won’t cost more than the current iPhone 4s model. The bad news is, there probably isn’t a whole lot of improvement in this new model. Apple fans are most likely to be disappointed that this next model will not feature near-field communication technology. I also  doubt that most people will be too happy that the iPhone 5 may feature a smaller dock connector and require new accessories.

After Apple announces their sixth generation smartphone, people should be able to pre-order the new phone, as it won’t be available immediately. Apple is also expected to introduce a new generation of iPods, but there is no word on whether they will introduce the iPad Mini.

We’re finally getting closer to the big announcement we’ve been waiting for all summer. It’s great that Apple is releasing their next generation iPhone a little earlier than they did last year. Hopefully they should make some good sales before the Christmas season, which I predict will be their busiest season of the year.
