If you have updated your device to Apple’s latest mobile operating system – the iOS 6, then you must be wondering where has the reliable Google Maps app gone. Many people didn’t liked the new Maps offering in iOS 6, as it’s kind of buggy. The new Maps app lacks Google’s Street View, and many users have reported major problems with maps, directions, and strange satellite photography. For now it really seems that the Maps in iOS 6 is not polished. If you would like to return to the familiar Google Maps, then here is a small trick that can help you do just that.
Open Safari and browse to Google Maps. Navigate to the location of your choice and wait for it to finish loading the page. Once you open the location, tap on the small arrow button from the Safari toolbar, which will open more options.
Tap on Add to Home Screen, and then type a name for the icon, which will instantly add an icon to your home screen. Safari will create a shortcut to Google Maps on your home screen, so that you can easily and quickly open the Google Maps.
A small menu bar is displayed across the map that features the search box and some buttons, which allow you to see your current location, get directions, open saved places, and more.
The negative side of this method is that you won’t be able to access Street View via a mobile browser. But, you can use an app called Live Street View. This is a free app, which can be downloaded from the App Store, but if you wish to remove the ads, then you’ll need to shell out 99 cents. This app is feature rich, as you can search for location, turn ON location tracking, change map to other views, like Satellite, hybrid, and map (standard view), and do much more.
