The new Apple Maps application has become a laughingstock for many people in the last two days. The app was rolled out, along with iOS 6, just yesterday, and already the criticism is resounding down the cyber halls of Twitter and other social sites.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) had already released its opinion of Maps, by touting the superiority of their Location Platform. Nokia posted a blog earlier today, noting the lack of information in Apple’s app, compared to their own. We reported this story here, on ValueWalk.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) is not the only company to criticize Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s new Maps, which they developed with the help of Tom Tom, in order to break away from using their rival, Google’s, Google Maps to offer GPS capabilities to their users. Gizmodo, a popular tech review site, called the Maps application and “apocalyptic horror show”.

CNET reports that this new GPS platform from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is extremely lacking in design and detail. The app reportedly has distorted images, which cause airport runways to be wrinkled, bridges to disappear, and also it appears to give incorrect directions, which may very well be true, considering Tom Tom did the developmental work on the app.

This latest update to the iOS operating system may very well cost Apple a lot of respect in the eyes of users, if they don’t correct the problem with their Maps application quickly. One other feature, which Nokia proudly touts in their blog about Apple’s lackluster program, is that Nokia owns their own GPS platform. They didn’t outsource to another company to build it, but instead, have designed and built the system themselves.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) responded to these criticisms with the following statement by spokeswoman Trudy Muller, “We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.” So, it seems they know their app may have some issues, and are working to resolve them.

How will all of this negativity affect Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)? Only time will tell, though I feel certain they will correct the issues, and move on very quickly. Apple is a leader in the tech industry, and has shown its ability to produce top of the line products in the past, I’m certain they will also perfect their Maps application, and prove once again that they are the most valuable company in the world for a reason.
