A recent report from Bloomberg claims that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) won’t be releasing their rumored television this year. This new report claims that the Cupertino-based company is delaying the release of Apple TV because they can’t seem to come to an agreement with cable companies. It’s speculated that Apple wants to create a special box for cable companies, which would allow viewers to access Apple based content, in addition to their regular channels. Naturally, the cable companies aren’t too keen on an idea that might deter people from using pay-per-view services, so for now it looks like that idea is on the back shelf.
Right now, Apple already has a TV box that basically lets viewers download or stream movies and television shows from iTunes, as well as extra access to popular apps from Netflix and Hulu Plus.

If and when Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launches their rumored TV, remains to be seen. Perhaps they should shift their focus on making a box that’s comparable to Roku or Boxee, and keep their current concept the same, just adding more apps and games to the mix. Besides, with the current trend of people canceling their cable subscriptions, Apple would be better off to set their sights on creating an alternative.
Before Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s co-founder Steve Jobs died last year, he talked about how he thought he finally cracked the code to make an integrated television set. Since then, there have been many rumors floating around about a future Apple television in the works. Obviously, many people want the world’s most valuable company to revitalize home television the way they revitalized cell phone. And, given Apple’s history of making magic, it’s very possible.
Another interesting possibility for Apple TV: they could create a special application or gadget that would connect their iPad to the home television set. I think this option would probably be their best option, as people love the iPad, and I know they would love it even more if the could apply that experience to their television sets.
