Wikipedia is the one-stop destination to know about any subject and topic. This is a great way to know about difficult to understand subjects and it comes in very handy especially to learning students of schools and colleges. Wikipedia is no doubt the web’s most comprehensive and best encyclopedia.
But sometimes some topics are so complex that they go over our head and we really wish that the subject is explained in simple and easy English. So how would you simplify hard and complicated Wikipedia articles in simple easy to understand language? That’s where Simple English Wikipedia comes to the rescue.
This simple version of Wikipedia is present since 2003 but it’s not that much popular and many people are unaware of this. This simple Wikipedia uses easier grammar and easy to understand language which is typically targeted towards children and students.
For example, check this page of Metaphysics on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphysics):
Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world, although the term is not easily defined. Traditionally, metaphysics attempts to answer two basic questions in the broadest possible terms:
“What is there?”
“What is it like?”
Whereas, if you want to access this same article in “Simple English Wikipedia”, then all you have to do is to just switch the “en” part in the URL to “simple” (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphysics):
Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy and is the study of the world. It is the basis of physics and other sciences. However, unlike other sciences, metaphysics asks very basic philosophical questions and does not look at the world directly.
Note the difference between the language used in both the versions. The simple version is easily understandable and you don’t need to be an expert in that subject to understand it.
