Apple & Google Set Record With iOS & Android OS Adoption Rates

Updated on

A new report claims that the iOS and Android devices are quickly adopted than any other consumer technology in history. This report is published by Flurry, which has published some pretty interesting figures about the iOS and Android adoption rates.

These numbers come from over 200,000 apps that have Flurry’s metrics tracking installed in them. There were over 640 million such iOS and Android devices in use during the month of July 2012. Flurry estimates that it can reliably detect over 90% of all iOS and Android devices active in the world during a given month.

The reason for this impressive growth of both the platforms is that people have become aware of advantages of using a smartphone, and these devices are selling like hot cakes. It seems that finally the era of feature phones is coming to an end.

Below you can see a graph of countries with greatest number of active iOS and Android devices (in millions):

The United States and China are two top scorers in this regard. The net active devices in United States grew by 30 million, while China saw more than 100 million new active devices in the market. If China continues to grow at this rate, then it can surpass United States during the 2012 Holiday season.

In the above chart, we can see active devices per country, between July 2011 and July 2012. China is leading the world with a 401% growth rate.

Finally, the above chart depicts the countries with highest penetration in each country, relative to its adult population, between ages 15 and 64 years old. Singapore has the highest market penetration at 92%.

Flurry has been recording these figures from quite some time. These may not be 100% accurate, but they are the best figures that we can obtain right now.

These figures clearly state that iOS and Android are the two most popular mobile operating system of this time.
