Telegram App No More Compatible With Galaxy A Series

Updated on

The Telegram app is a popular messaging service that boasts of a security-first approach and support for a wide variety of platforms. However, it appears that it has dropped support for some Samsung Galaxy phones lately. Over the last few days, several 2019 Galaxy A series users have complained that the messaging app is not available for them, according to tech site PiunikaWeb.

Telegram app and 2019 Galaxy A series – compatibility issue

Samsung’s 2019 Galaxy A series users have raised the issue on product forums, the Play Store review section and on social platforms including Reddit and Twitter. Some say that the app is not working as intended and they are facing several issues, while others say the app is no longer available on the Play Store for them.

“I’m using Samsung Galaxy A50 with Samsung One Ui and android 9.0 OS. But now it stated that telegram doesn’t support my device anymore. Any information?” one Twitter user said.

Soon after users started complaining about the issue with the Telegram app on the Galaxy 2019 A series phones, Telegram’s support team came up with an explanation that the issue is from Samsung’s end.

Further, the team said the issue is mainly with the file system with the 2019 Galaxy A series phones, and because of this, Telegram has removed the support for these devices.

“Samsung’s 2019 Ax0 series phones have issues with their file system which render Telegram and some other apps unusable. We’ve removed support for these devices until Samsung can fix the issue with a software update,” Telegram said in a tweet.

Until Samsung fixes the issue, Telegram is suggesting users to use Telegram X. Some users have tried Telegram X and found it to be okay.

A point to note is that Samsung recently rolled out an update for the Galaxy A series phone. However, it is not clear if the update addressed the compatibility issue with the Telegram app or not. At least one user says that the problem is resolved, but another suggested that it worked only for some time.

Telegram X – all you need to know

For those wondering what Telegram X is, it is an experimental fork of the messaging app. This experimental version is available for download on the Play Store and App Store.

“An alternative Telegram client based on TDLib, with higher speed, slicker animations and experimental features,” read the description of Telegram X on the Play Store.

In addition to all basic features present in the Telegram app, the Telegram X offers a few experimental features as well. Some of the noticeable differences between the two versions are that Telegram X is faster, smoother and has impressive specifications.

Further, there are differences in the user interface as well. In Telegram X, the main screen has two sections, one for chats and the other for calls. Also, instead of the buttons in Telegram or any other messaging app, one can navigate in the Telegram X using the tabs, including tabs for sharing options or a tab dedicated to the online Telegram bots.

Another difference is in the visual style, which is much more appealing in the X version. Moreover, there is also a night mode and use of chat bubbles. Presumably, the team is testing both these features in the X version, and would eventually launch these in the main app once it is satisfied with their performance.

Telegram X got an update in April. The update brought with it several changes, but one major change was the completely rewritten notifications. The April update also added stability improvements and a few customization features as well.

Another change was to the multi-accounts. The Telegram X already supports multiple accounts, but it has been seen that using too many accounts strains the device’s memory and battery. However, the latest update claims to have fixed the issue by completely rewriting the core feature.

“Now it does not matter whether you have 3 or 3000 accounts in Telegram X, they will take similar amount of resources, and notifications will work for all of them,” read the changelog of the April update.

Other changes include creating and participating in polls, ability to delete messages on both ends in private chats, installing and sharing language packs, better 2FA process and more.
