Moto Z4 Showed Up On Amazon Unannounced, And Someone Bought It

Updated on

Motorola has not yet announced the Moto Z4, but somehow, the upcoming handset made its way to Amazon. The handset stayed on the site long enough for someone to buy it.

User shares unboxing video

Before this blunder, we only knew about the Moto Z4 via leaked renderings and rumors. The device was rumored to have secured a U.S. FCC certification earlier this month. Now thanks to the listing on Amazon, we now have the phone’s real specifications and an unboxing and first impressions video. The video shows that Moto Mods work with the Moto Z4. This leak is in line with images shared by trusted tipster Evan Blass earlier this year.

There were two listings for the Moto Z4 on Amazon, both of which have now been removed. One listing was for the Amazon-exclusive model, and the second was for the unlocked variant. As expected, the Amazon-exclusive model comes with Alexa and other apps pre-installed, while the unlocked variant comes with a free 360-degree Moto Mod.

Both variants carried a price tag of $499.99, which may be another mistake. At that price, the Moto Z4 is more expensive than the Pixel 3a series. Although Amazon has removed both listings, an archived version of the main page is available here.

Specs and features of the Moto Z4

According to the Amazon listing, the Moto Z4 sports a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1080. The handset is powered by a Snapdragon 675 CPU and features 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, which is expandable via a microSD card. The Snapdragon 675 comes as a surprise because rumors had suggested a Snapdragon 855 for built-in 5G support.

The handset sports a 48 MP camera with a 12 MP output on the back and a 25 MP camera for selfies. It’s difficult to tell for now how this camera will compete with others in the market, but the user who posted the hands-on video also shared some shots taken with it on Reddit.

The handset also boasts an in-display fingerprint reader. This makes complete sense, considering that the back of the phone could be covered by detachable Moto Mods which help to extend the battery life, shoot 360-degree video, listen to music at higher volumes and more.

The Moto Z4 runs on Android 9 Pie, features a headphone jack, 3,600 mAh battery and support for TurboPower fast charging. Motorola claims the handset will last up to two days on a charge.

Other specifications include a P2i splash-proof nano-coating, a 2.5D curved glass finish on the front, and an aluminum chassis. The handset will support all four major carriers in the U.S.

Other Moto phones in the works

Motorola is also expected to release the Moto Z4 Force. A Reddit user pointed to a listing for a screen protector on Amazon. The listing clearly suggests that the screen protector will only fit the Moto Z4 Force. As of now, there is no more information about the device, but rumors suggest it will feature 8 GB of RAM, a 3,230 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 855 chip.

The Moto Z4 Force is expected to be a high-end variant of the Moto Z4 family, but it could have the same display as the Moto Z4. It will likely feature an in-display fingerprint scanner and come with 128 GB of internal storage. It is expected to cost $650.

Motorola’s Moto Z4 Force is rumored to come feature a triple-lens camera with sensors from Sony and OmniVision. The three sensors will likely be a 48-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, a 13-megapixel secondary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, and a telephoto lens with an f/2.0 aperture. The front camera is expected to be the same as the one on the Moto Z4 smartphone.

Motorola is also rumored to be working on new Android One smartphones. One of those smartphones is already official with the name One Vision. According to famed leakster Evan Blass (aka @evleaks on Twitter), the other smartphones in the series will be the One Action and One Pro.

However, there is no information on the specs of these models. Going by the name, the One Action could be a gaming phone, while the Pro model could be the top variant in Motorola’s One-branded series.
