Apple has just released the iOS 12 software to the public and is busy fixing bugs users have encountered in the final build. However, users and concept designers have started looking forward to the next year’s iOS 13. The iOS 12 focused largely on performance and stability, boosting speed and reliability on older iPhones and iPads. The iOS 13 is expected to bring a bunch of new features. A new iOS 13 concept explores possible changes in the next year’s mobile software.
The best iOS 13 concept we have seen so far
Apple won’t announce iOS 13 until WWDC 2019, which would take place in June. The software would then go through a prolonged beta testing phase before being rolled out to the public sometime in September 2019. At least that’s the pattern Apple has been following for the last few years.
Concept creator Jacob Rendina has posted an iOS 13 concept video on YouTube that features some practical changes users would love to see in reality. The video shows off an improved multitasking on iPads and the ability to run two apps side by side on the iPhone XS. Users have wished for windowed apps for a long time. It also makes sense to offer split-screen apps on iPhones given their giant screen sizes.
The iOS 13 concept lets users lock specific apps for privacy. It also gets a new Notes app that allows you to add Notes right on the home screen. There is a new Dashboard on iPads that combines the Control Center and Notification Center. It will remind you of BlackBerry Hub. The concept video also flaunts the ability to create shortcuts for native as well as third-party apps.
Rendina’s iOS 13 concept also comes with multi-user support, something that people have been demanding for years. You can log into your admin account and set up guest accounts for other people on the same iPhone or iPad. Other users will only be able to access their own photos, contacts, and apps, not yours.
It also features a Dark Mode, which looks awesome in the concept video. Apple has already introduced Dark Mode in macOS Mojave. It’s only a matter of time before the tech giant would bring it to iOS. The concept also offers an Always-On Display, something you’ll find on most flagship Android phones.
Rendina’s iOS 13 concept has tons of cool stuff for iOS users. But this is just a concept. The features envisioned in the video might not make it to the final iOS 13. Or Apple could bring something we haven’t seen in this or any other concept.
Rumored iOS 13 features
The iOS 13 is expected to focus on iPads. Last year’s iOS 11 was all about iPads and this year’s iOS 12 largely focused on iPhones.
According to Bloomberg contributor Mark Gurman, the next year’s software will have the ability to work with multiple windows in the same app side-by-side. A home screen redesign is also on the cards considering the amount of unused screen space on iPads. The new home screen design is reportedly titled ‘Springboard.’

The rumor mill claims that we will also see Apple Pencil improvements next year, though it’s unclear how Apple would improve it.
Apple has also been working on Project Marzipan to unify the APIs of its desktop and mobile operating systems. It will allow developers to create a single app that would work across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It was rumored to debut this year but has been delayed as Apple wanted to focus on performance and stability with iOS 12.
The iOS 13 is also rumored to bring tons of new emojis. Earlier this year, the Emoji Consortium released emoji candidates for 2019. These emojis include a variety of skin colors, hot and cold faces, hair options (bald, curly hair, white hair), a supervillain, goggles, more animals, a lab coat, new footwear, and new food items. Since Apple is a member of the Emoji Consortium, we wouldn’t be surprised to see new symbols in iOS 13.
