A report released last month by The Partnership for Working Families and The Action Center for Race & the Economy escalated mounting criticism of Amazon’s profiteering and empowering of far-right organizations. Earlier today, Amazon announced that it had removed products bearing Nazi and white supremacist imagery from its online store. However, according to news reports, many white supremacist materials still remain available on the site even after Amazon’s announcement.

In reaction to the news, Sijal Nasralla, campaigner for SumOfUs, issued the following statement:

“From selling dangerous racist imagery to providing a platform for Nazis to profit and grow their movements, Amazon is complicit in perpetuating white supremacy and hate. Their announcement today could be read as a good first step, but we are not buying it. Many white supremacist materials remain on their platform and the online retail giant continues to fund or provide a platform for other extremist groups through ads on Breitbart and the streaming of NRAtv. In order for Amazon to take a clear and public stance against hate, it must stop profiting from it..”
