iOS 11.3.1 Electra jailbreak update to release soon

Updated on

While there has been a lack of progress in the jailbreaking community so far, it appears as if new iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak news has surfaced that suggests we’ll be seeing an Electra update sooner rather than later.

A number of prominent figures in the jailbreaking community have come forward once again to renew our hope in the progress of unlocking Apple’s restrictive operating system with exciting iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak news regarding a potential Electra update.

While the jailbreaking community previously consisted mainly of developers working in isolation to crack the iOS operating system, this iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak news is just another confirmation that the community can come together in order to deliver a product that makes the operating system more open for everyone.

With how tight Apple security has become, it takes some pretty talented developers to come up with a way to get around their protections – and the update from Project Zero’s Ian Beer was the catalyst behind the upcoming iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak news that will bring the previous operating system into more open functionality.

We’re currently on iOS 11.4 so those who have updated will probably not be able to take advantage of the system unless they downgrade quickly, but it’s unlikely that the jailbroken operating system will ever coincide with the latest update unless Apple makes some serious security missteps. The fact that it came so soon speaks to the talent of the developers behind the crack and the new collaboration within the community.

CoolStar’s Electra jailbreak gave us an update for iOS 11.0-11.1.2 that featured Cydia compatibility. A post from Ian Beer confirms with new iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak news that we should see an update that will allow us to access a jailbreak on more modern updates.

“If you’re interested in bootstrapping iOS kernel security research keep a research-only device on iOS 11.3.1 for more tfp0. Release probably next week. Oh, and the 11.1.2 KDP-compatible kernel debugger really is coming soon!”

Jonathan Levin has confirmed that iOS 11.3 closes the Ian Beer exploits, meaning that users will have to find another way to crack the brand new operating system. For those of us who are still on iOS 11.3.1, however, it appears as if good jailbreak news is coming sooner rather than later.

CoolStar has confirmed that Electra might be updated soon, but gave some bad news for those of us on newer devices.

“Electra might be updated to support 11.3.1 soon, however there is a non-zero chance of it only supporting devices up to A9 due to requiring a KPP bypass

I have no real interest in devices newer than the iPhone 6S, so if we have to patch something protected by KPP I’ll likely just use the KPP bypass and not bother with iPhone 7 or newer.”

If you’re already on iOS 11.4, now is the time to downgrade if you’d like to take advantage of this potential iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak news. Apple will likely stop signing the software soon, so act fast!
