Fortnite: Battle Royale To Get More Limited Time Modes

Updated on

Fortnite: Battle Royale developer Epic Games revealed that more limited-time mode would be coming to the game. In December, the developer came out with the first limited time mode – 50-versus-50. In the 50-versus-50 mode, players are divided into two teams and work on a much larger scale.

In a blog post, Epic Games stated that the free to play mode had been received well by the fans. The game now reaches about 3.4 million concurrent players. Thus, seeing the encouraging reactions from the fans, the company now plans to come out with more limited time modes, which it internally refers to as LTM, notes Polygon.

“We’ve been using multiple data points (including your feedback) to iterate our existing LTM’s and to build brand new LTM’s. We are planning to quickly spin up a dozen or so LTMs, some of these may be more straightforward (e.g. along the lines of Sniper Shootout, Sneaky Silencer etc.),” the game developer said.

Upcoming modes in the game could be a new version of 50-versus-50 – dubbed 50v50 v2, somewhat similar to the in-engine trailer, notes Polygon. The mode would have two teams loaded in two different buses and dropped in different parts of the map. The player can see the indicators for other squadmates on the map, and the battlefield will get continuous supply drops.

Epic Games also announced that they are removing SMG in Fortnite Battle Royale mode. The weapon would be removed from the PC, PS4 and Xbox One for the time being. However, some variants of the weapon would still be present in the game. The developer noted that the SMG would be put in the “Vault,” meaning it will be completely out of the game, but will return in future.

Explaining why it is being removed, an Epic representative wrote on Reddit: “As we add more weapons, consumables, and other item types, we want to make sure that the balance of itemization isn’t ruined.” Further, the representative noted that more items are coming to the game and those gone in the “Vault” would re-appear once the timing is right.

Another change coming to the game is better communication between the team members. As of now, team members can communicate in Duo or Squad mode through voice chat. Going forward, a new method for communication would be dropped in the game soon. However, there is no information about what this new method is. Another new feature coming to the game would allow players to get ready for another match straight from the death screen instead of going back to the lobby for playing another match.

Epic also discussed about its plans for the game such as 60 FPS mode on consoles and new item launches. Fortnite: Battle Royale is different from other battle royale games as players are allowed to use the base game’s hybrid building mechanics alongside its third-person shooter gameplay.

Just last month, Fortnite: Battle Royale introduced a new map. The field is gone in the new map; instead, there are several-story buildings in the center. Across the buildings are ammo, guns, potions, materials and traps to defend and protect the player until the last player survives.
