Samsung Refreshes 2018 Notebook 9 Lineup, Adds Built-in S Pen Model

Updated on

Samsung on Wednesday announced three new models of Notebook 9 (2018) laptops and a new Samsung Notebook 9 Pen. The Korean firm did not wait for the CES to make the announcement, suggesting the company does not want its laptop to be overpowered by other brands during the tech event, where new laptops are usually launched.

Samsung Notebook 9 series – powerful yet Lightweight

The Samsung Notebook 9 Pen, a 13.3-inch 2-in-1 notebook, will have an integrated S Pen, similar to the Notebook 9 Pro, which was introduced in May. The Notebook 9 Pen would include Intel’s 8th generation Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. Display resolution would be 1920 x 1080, but there is no higher resolution option, notes The Verge.

The Samsung Notebook 9 Pen is flexible enough to be used as a tablet or for drawing. Further, the laptop would include a HDMI port, a single USB-C port and a regular USB port in addition to the microSD storage and a Windows Hello camera to login Windows 10 with face authentication.

“At Samsung, we have long felt that technology must fit within the lives of the consumer, not the other way around. Over the past several years, the lines between our personal and professional lives have started to blur creating the need for technology that allows us to connect, collaborate and share from anywhere,” said Samsung’s Senior VP of the PC Business Team, Mobile Communications Business, YoungGyoo Choi, in a press release.

The Notebook 9 (2018) laptops have been updated with three different versions offering a 13.3-inch to a 15-inch screen and improved graphics capabilities. All new notebooks are built of magnesium aluminum alloy, dubbed as “Metal12.” The material, which is lightweight compared to single aluminum, makes the aesthetics more pleasant and high-end compared to the plastic-like material that Samsung used before. The Korean firm has used the MAO treatment of oxide coating on the laptops giving them a perfect finish.

Samsung has added a fingerprint sensor in the laptops for login instead of typing a password. The Samsung Notebook 9 Pen also comes with an IR front–facing camera for facial recognition. The new laptops are the thinnest in their class, easy to carry and work on the go.

Further, the laptops come with RealView display, offering a bright and accurate premium image with real color and accurate brightness for using the device indoors and outdoors. The devices run on the 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor and Samsung Dual Channel Memory to handle multiple jobs, viewing and rendering high-quality graphics without compromising on the performance or speed.

Galaxy A8 and A8+ – new details surfaced

Separately, details of two Samsung smartphones – Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) – recently surfaced. The user manual, which was spotted on Samsung’s official website, shows the design of the two phones. Both new models look similar with thin bezels and infinity display, more or less like the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagships.

The manual also shows the dual camera setup on the front and single setup on the rear. The fingerprint sensor is placed just below the camera at the rear. Samsung has also added LED flash and NFC support to the primary camera sensor.
