A Hands-on Video Suggests A Translucent Option For HTC U11 Plus

Updated on

The HTC U11 Plus and U11 Life have been in the news for quite some time now, and it’s just days before these devices will be announced officially. Despite this, the leaks for the devices are not ending, as now a hands-on video has surfaced revealing almost everything about the upcoming devices.

Translucent option for HTC U11 Plus

The leaked video (first spotted by Phandroid) suggests that the HTC U11 Plus could come with a translucent option. The hands-on unit shows a translucent glass back, revealing what could be the wireless charging coil. The image in the video shows a circular coil under the shell, which many believe could be a component for wireless charging or NFC. The leaked video has since been removed. On Monday, trusted tipster Evan Blass also tweeted that the handset will be available in silver, black and translucent.

Further, the video confirms that the HTC U11 Plus will sport a 6-inch display, and be fitted with a 4,000 mAh battery.  The only known storage option for now is 128GB, but more options could be announced at the time of launch.  A dual camera setup is still absent as the video shows one large rear camera and a fingerprint scanner on the back. As was revealed by earlier leaks, there is no home button (due to very thin bezels on each side) on the front. Instead, the handset has five on-screen buttons for menu controls.

Separately, a TENAA listing spotted last week, revealed a 6-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio, and a Geekbench listing showed that the smartphone would be powered by the Snapdragon 835 and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

HTC U11 Life to be a mid-end device

The other phone, HTC U11 Life could be sold under Google’s Android One program, which recently added the Xiaomi Mi A1. The handset could come with a pure Android version and a Pixel-like interface. Earlier this week, a T-Mobile listing revealed key specifications of the HTC U11 Life. According to the listing, the handset would sport a 5.2-inch full-HD display and a Snapdragon 630 SoC. Further, the smartphone would have 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage and a 16-megapixel camera on the front and back.

The video reveals that both the variants will be water and dust resistant, and come with Edge Sense, a feature where users squeeze the sides to trigger customizable functions.  The feature is similar to the one on the HTC-made Pixel 2 device. On Tuesday, HTC also teased the squeeze feature for its upcoming U-series smartphone.  The teaser from HTC shows the similarities between the earlier U11 and the upcoming handset. The company also confirmed a squeezable frame on the upcoming smartphone with a tweet, “A new squeeze is coming.” Further, a six-second video with a tweet gave a preview of the earlier teasers that hinted a rear-facing fingerprint scanner and bezel-less display for the next smartphone.

Talking of the price of the upcoming smartphones, the video says that the HTC U11 Plus will cost 849 Swiss Francs (around US$848), while the HTC U11 Life is priced at 349 Swiss Francs (US$348). HTC could reveal both the models at an event on Nov. 2.
