Nintendo Has SNES-Styled 3DS XL For U.S. Gamers Too

Updated on

SNES-styled 3DS XL console will come to the United States as well, and not just Europe as reported earlier. According to a report by Engadget, Amazon is exclusively offering the console on pre-order for $199.99. Two weeks after rolling out in Europe, the new 3DS XL would be available in the United States with a release set for Nov. 27.

No adapter with SNES-styled 3DS XL

The new Nintendo 3DS XL system comes with the next-generation portable gaming along with the super stable 3D technology and additional control features. The console comes with amiibo support to give a better gaming experience, allow the user to take 3D photos, and connect with friends. Nintendo 3DS XL will play all the games of the Nintendo DS games, but those games will not appear in 3D.

To sweeten the deal, Nintendo will also pack the download code for Super Mario Kart with the 3DS. Nintendo will sell the SNES-themed 3DS XL without the AC adapter, so customers would need to buy one separately. The system uses the same AC adapter as the Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS systems. Just like Super Nintendo’s design, the SNES-styled 3DS XL will come packed in a fancy box, notes ComicBook.

Further, the U.S. version of the console will look different than the European version. The U.S. version will sport the classic blue and grey motif. You can pre-order the system now, but we suggest you hurry, as similar to other recent gaming systems from Nintendo, we expect it to sell out pretty fast.

Nintendo is keen to cash in on nostalgia by bringing back the retro consoles in miniature form. Last year, NES Classic was released, followed by the Super NES Classic. After that, there were several versions of the console with Europe and Japan getting separate versions. The SNES Classic, launched this year, is already a hit with a series of built-in games and striking new features such as rewind and replay options. Not to forget the Super Famicon-themed 3DS for the Japanese market launched in early 2016.

Other 3DS related news

In another 3DS related developments, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon are set to release next month. Both of the titles are the remastered version of the original Sun and Moon, but with loads of new content. One such interesting thing is the ability for trainers to leave the Alola region. Nintendo has also added two new destinations – the world of the Ultra Beasts and a world inhabited by the legendary Pokemon.

Ever since Pokemon debuted in 1996, the title has been an inseparable part of Nintendo. However, the mainline Pokemon games are actually developed at the Tokyo headquartered studio, Game Freak. Over the past two decades, Game Freak has overseen some 26 titles in the franchise starting with Pokemon Red, Pokemon Green and Pokemon Blue to Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon in 2016.

The Japanese console maker, however, notes that these Pokemon titles will be the last main games on the 3DS, notes Game Rant. Another major game coming to 3DS is Kirby Battle Royale, which will release in January 2018. Kirby Battle Royale will be an action fighting game along with being multiplayer.
