List Of Phones Getting The Android 8.0 Oreo Update

Updated on

If you have an Android smartphone and you are running Android 7.0 Nougat, you may be curious about the deployment timeline for the Android 8.0 Oreo update for your smartphone. In this article, you can learn where your smartphone stands as far as the Android 8.0 Oreo update, whether your phone is eligible for it, and if so, when it will arrive.

Android 8.0 Oreo Update

Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+

There is no info regarding the Oreo update for these models yet. However, it should arrive on them at the beginning of 2018. Eventually, Oreo will arrive on the S8, probably in early February at the latest.

Galaxy Note 8

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was released about a month ago, and unfortunately, it doesn’t come with Android Oreo right out of the box. However, it shouldn’t be too long until the Android 8.0 Oreo update is pushed out to it. The latest this update may be released for the Note 8 is toward the end of the year or in early 2018. We hope that users won’t have to wait for the update for as long as Note 5 users waited when Android Marshmallow came out in March and April last year.

Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge

Unfortunately, we can’t know how long it will be before these phones receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update, although we expect it to arrive in Spring 2018. The phones originally came with Android Marshmallow, and then they were updated to Nougat.

Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+

These phones no longer have software support, which means that they won’t move forward from the Nougat version of Android

LG V30

The LG V30 is likely the first LG-built smartphone to get the Android Oreo update. However, the timing is not precisely clear. Hopefully, the LG V30 will receive the new version of Google’s operating system before the end of the year.

LG G6

The G6 will likely face a fate similar to that of its predecessor, the G5. Mobile carriers pushed out Android Nougat to their G5 handsets in mid-November 2016. However, the unlocked version of the phone didn’t receive Nougat until the middle of May 2017. That being said, the first version of Android 8.0 Oreo is expected to arrive on the G6 around December, although it’s unclear when the unlocked version of the device will receive it.

Moto Z2 Force Edition

The Moto Z2 Force Edition is expected to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update before the end of this year.

Moto Z2 Play

Similar to its sibling, the Moto Z2 Force Edition, the Moto Z2 Play is likely to receive Google’s new operating system sometime this fall. However, it is more likely that the Force Edition will be the first smartphone to receive Android Oreo.

HTC U11

Given that the HTC 10 received Android Nougat in the first 90 days of release, we expect the same practice for the U11. Most likely, the HTC U11 will receive the update before the end of the year, as the company tries very hard to be up to date, with all its devices synchronized with the latest versions of the operating system. The Android 8.0 Oreo update came out on August 21, which means the HTC U11 could deploy it soon.

HTC U Ultra

HTC announced that the HTC U Ultra will receive Oreo right after the HTC U11.

HTC 10

Android Oreo will be the last OS update for the HTC 10. That being said, it is unlikely that this device will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update anytime soon. The HTC 10 will probably receive Oreo in the first half of next year. This speculation comes from the fact that the One M9, which is the HTC 10’s predecessor, received the Android Nougat update in the spring of this year.

Huawei Mate 9

Unfortunately, Huawei is not usually punctual with the Android updates, so they usually come to the company’s devices later than they do to competing devices. However, it is said that the Android 8.0 Oreo update could come to the Huawei Mate 9 as early as November.

Huawei P10

Huawei P10 debuted with Android Nougat. Unfortunately, given that the company is slow with updates, users of this device can’t expect this operating system to come before 2018. The simple explanation is the heavy EMUI interface, which features software updates with all the features Google already evicted.

Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact

These two models will arrive with Android Oreo right out of the box, so you will get to test Google’s new software as soon as it gets shipped to you.

Sony Xperia XZs

The Xperia XZs will receive Android O at the end of November or beginning of December. Given that the previous version of the device got Android Nougat in November 2016, it is expected that Oreo will follow a similar timeline.
