Your body has an endocannabinoid system that regulates many of the systems in your body, and the cannabinoids in CBD oil are thought to help regulate those systems.

Cannabidiol activates your serotonin receptors, which can help with anxiety and other psychological disorders. It bids to your TRPV1 receptors to moderate things like pain, body temperature, and inflammation. It blocks a protein receptor that can cause cancer cells to spread. It activates certain receptors to stop cancer and prevent alzheimer’s disease.

There is a question of legality of CBD oil at the federal level. According to the DEA, anything derived from cannabis is a controlled substance. However, the 2014 Farm Bill legalized industrial growing and use of hemp, including products made from it. CBD oil can be made from hemp, though in states where marijuana is not yet legalized law enforcement may not see it that way. Those with serious medical conditions may be advised to move to a state where legality is not in question.
