New Galaxy Note 8 Features Hinted At By Samsung

Updated on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 hype train is moving ahead full steam and Samsung is adding fuel to speculation as the official announcement of the device draws closer and closer. On a recent conference call the company has this to say (emphasis mine):

The Galaxy Note series, first launched in 2011, come with a range of multimedia features, including the large-size display, and S Pen, only available with the smartphone models. The Galaxy Note 8 will feature more advanced, richer multimedia functionalities.

That last line should raise some eyebrows. Of course, Samsung didn’t expand on what they meant by that. If they did then they would have nothing to present at their upcoming conference in August. We can certainly try and speculate what they meant, however!

The first thing that comes to mind is the S Pen. There have been rumors that Samsung was looking to make some tweaks to improve the S Pen. Other than some grainy, leaked photos from earlier in the summer there is very little we know about the S Pen and any new Galaxy Note 8 features that may come with it. Some patent filings by Samsung seem to indicate they are working on integrating a speaker into the S Pen. Whether this comes in the Galaxy Note 8 release or is further down the line remains to be seen. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some new S Pen functionality this fall that fit the description in the quote from Samsung, above.

The bezel-less display on the Galaxy Note 8 is all but confirmed at this point. “Richer multimedia” could certainly be a result of a beautiful, bezel-less 6.3-inch AMOLED display. Although, you have to think some new Galaxy Note 8 features are coming that are more than just reduced bezels. I mean, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ launched with a nearly bezel-less display so it’s not like slimmed-down bezels are exactly a groundbreaking feature at this point.

There have been rumors lately about Samsung launching an Airpod-like set of wireless headphones alongside the Galaxy Note 8 this fall. It’s not entirely known whether the headphones will be shipped as a part of the Galaxy Note 8 package or sold separately. If they did come bundled together, wireless headphones could certainly be considered one of the new Galaxy Note 8 features that fits the wording of the quote above.

Beyond that, there may be new Galaxy Note 8 features baked into the software that we have not yet heard about through leaks. The launch of the Galaxy Note 8 is shaping up to be a big one for the company. Samsung is looking to put the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco behind them. Plus, the company is also trying to beat the iPhone 8 to market and get an advantage in sales as the holiday shopping season kicks off in the fall.

Whatever new Galaxy Note 8 features are coming, it won’t be long until we have everything officially announced by Samsung. Their conference is coming up on August 23rd. That’s when Samsung is expected to announced the much-anticipated, very leak-prone, Galaxy Note 8. There will likely be more leaks leading up to that date and, of course, we will be discussing everything as it happens. The good news is that Samsung fans won’t have to wait much longer.
