Google Pixel 2 Cases Appear on Amazon

Updated on

A Reddit user noticed that some Amazon sellers have already listed Google Pixel 2 cases and Pixel XL 2 cases. Of course, these are likely based on renders that we have already seen so there may be some inaccuracies. However, with the release of the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 coming soon, we have to expect that a lot of case manufacturers will have updated CAD files in order to get their products to market around launch time. So, with all that said, let’s take a look at these cases and what they may tell us about the upcoming devices.

First, and probably one of the most exciting pieces of news from these new Google Pixel 2 cases, is that the headphone port appears to still be alive. We have been going back and forth on this for the past few weeks. Some initial leaks suggested the headphone port was going to be included. Then some new renders came along that appeared to exclude the headphone port. I’m cautiously optimistic but, if these cases are accurate, it looks like the headphone port isn’t going anywhere.

From both of those images above we can see a cutout at the top of the device that looks an awful lot like a 3.5mm headphone port cutout. This should be great news for everyone who has a fancy pair of headphones sitting at home that they were worried would become obsolete. Obviously, smartphone cases listed on Amazon early aren’t exactly a confirmation of features (or the lack thereof) but if more and more leaks continue to stack up that suggest the headphone port is still alive and well then we can make some assumptions based on that. It was also a little weird to see Google potentially drop the 3.5mm headphone port after taking shots at Apple for doing the same thing less than a year ago.

In the above image we can see the device shown along with the case. Of course, this is almost surely a render so there could be some inaccuracies. Still, based on this render we can see the reduced bezels on the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2. I, for one, am a big fan of this trend of greatly reducing bezels on smartphones. More screen real estate without increasing device size is a nice step in the right direction.

Using these Google Pixel 2 cases we can also safely assume that the fingerprint sensor is remaining on the back of the device. This feature was never really at risk of being moved and every single render we have seen appears to be consistent regarding the placement of the fingerprint sensor. I’m just happy to see that they didn’t put the fingerprint sensor right next to the camera sensor like Samsung did with the Galaxy S8 and S8+. That should save us from blurry, smudged photos.

If you’re the gambling type and you plan on picking up one of Google’s new flagship smartphones this fall then you can buy these Google Pixel 2 cases right now on Amazon. My suggestion would be to wait and see what design is actually confirmed by Google this fall but I’m not your boss. You do you.

Do these Google Pixel 2 cases change your thoughts on the device? Are you excited to see the headphone port is back (for now) or are you someone who was fully ready to embrace the Bluetooth headphone lifestyle? Can the new Google devices compete with the likes of the Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8? Let us know what you’re thinking as the release date of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 draws closer.
