Galaxy S8 Vs iPhone 7 Plus Speed Test: Which One Wins?

Updated on

Which one should you buy, iPhone 7 Plus or Galaxy S8? Similar in size at 5.5-inches and 5.8-inches these two smartphones are set to go head-to-head. However, before you rush out and buy one, there’s one fundamental question worth answer, and that’s which one is faster? Thankfully, that question has been attempted to be answered by a couple of YouTube video testers, here’s what they found.

Galaxy S8 Vs iPhone 7 Plus

Every year consumers are confronted with a new choice from Samsung and this year has proven to be no different. However, what has been concerning Android fans is whether the Galaxy S8 may be slower than Apple‘s current-gen devices. Even when, benchmark tests have shown that the S8 beats both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in multi-core comparisons. The problem, however, is that single-core results have not gone the way of the Samsung, which has caused concern among would-be owners. Because, usually, a result like this would indicate slower real-world performance.

As such, that’s where the two tests we’ve got for you today come in; each goes about the speed testing in their own unique way. However, the results will surprise you.

Speed Test 1

For this first Galaxy S8 Vs iPhone 7 Plus test let’s picture the scene, we have the Samsung with its top-spec Snapdragon 835. Plus, there’s 4GB of RAM and Samsung’s latest version of TouchWiz layered over stock Android. As for the Apple device, it has the A10 Fusion chipset and 3GB of RAM and of course the latest firmware iOS 10.3.

Now, at first glance, you would think that the S8 would easily best the 7 Plus when launching apps, 4K video, and running games. However, that’s not what EverythingApplePro discovered. In fact, the popular video channel’s testers found that their Galaxy S8 test handset suffered from sluggishness compared to the iPhone 7 Plus. Now and again it would seem to hang when an icon was touched leading to slower launch times.

Could this have been the result of a faulty device? It’s certainly possible, however, it could be that a software fix is required. Did this affect the overall result, yes, it lead the iPhone crushing the Samsung, something that was not expected?

Speed Test 2

Unfortunately, if this next test proves anything, it is that not all YouTube smartphone test videos are created equally. What do we mean by that? To put it bluntly, this next test is unscientific, yes, it is unbiased, meaning the tester doesn’t favor one handset over the other. It’s just the approach to testing what is ultimately an important question for consumers is flawed.

However, that assessment doesn’t mean you should ignore it; we quite often see real-world tests by less experienced vloggers. What you have to realize is, there’s always something to take away from them. Created by TECH VOICE 2 POHEN Amer, this 2nd test is less controlled compared to the first. In fact, we would go as far as saying it’s less controlled than most. There’s no lap-style testing here; instead, we have the narrator tapping on various apps and calling out the winner.

As for what we can take from it, this is a bad way to speed test the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7 Plus. However, in direct contradiction to the first test, the S8 can be seen to launch apps faster than the 7 Plus. Which begs the question, which one of the two tests shows the correct result?

As you can see, both videos are above, why not take a look and come and share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
